Day 24 – Trstenik to Dubrovnik via Mljet (Cruise Day 3)

Today is our last full day on the cruise and we had an early-ish start as we rocked in Mljet. Mljet National Park is a stunning natural sanctuary on the northwest part of Mljet Island, featuring two deep saltwater lakes, lush green pine forests, and lots of cycling tracks. Founded on November 11, 1960, it is the oldest marine protected area in the Mediterranean. Once at the national Park we rented bikes and rode around the island. The highlight for the kids was stopping at St. Mary’s Islet (Sveta Marija). It is a tiny island sitting inside the Great Lake that houses an old 12th-century Benedictine monastery, which now operates as a cafe and restaurant. Once we got to the shore the kids had to wave a red flag for the boatman to come over and take us to the monastery where we had morning tea.

The lakes were incredibly clear however it was all quite rocky. We all went in for a swim, till I realised I had forgotten to take my wallet out of my pocket.

After lunch on the boat we had another swim stop on the way to Dubrovnik and this place has lots of fish. One of the other kids on the cruise found some star fish that he brought over to show Thomas.

It’s going to be a long day tomorrow when we disembark from the boat and spend the day in Dubrovnik.
