Teas, Meals and Rickshaws

It seems to be taking longer for everyone to get over their jet lag this time around and the little ones are still waking up before 5 in the morning and pottering around the house. Hopefully in another day they will be sleeping in better. The weather is still incredibly hot with the maximum predicted to be 31 degrees today – which is hard to imagine in December. It is also a bit more humid than the kids are used to and is playing a part in them just wanting to lounge around. We spent the morning doing our journals, playing card games and generally “bumming” around.

Thomas has been desperate to ride in an auto-rickshaw (tuk tuk) since the very day we arrived. Unfortunately since we have a driver on hand all day all our trips have been in the family car – mainly due to convenience. Today, we decided to do a trip to City Centre, for the sole purpose of going in a tuk tuk. Without doubt it was the highlight of the day for all the kids.

While at City Centre we stopped for morning tea at the Tea Junction. This was a favourite haunt for Matthew and I when we visited last year and he was excited to introduce Tom and Emily to the bubble teas as well.

We also went for a wander through the shopping centre and even dropped into Starmark to check out some books and board games. Needless to say there is a “Cricket” variant of the Monopoly game for sale. Emily eyed the “House of Candy” longingly everytime we walked past. Thomas found a souvenir shop which was housed in an old horse drawn tram near the centre of the shops. We also noticed a range of American eateries including Chili’s, Burger King, KFC etc, right alongside Desi-Chinese, Indian Street Food stalls and traditional tea shops – quite an eclectic melting pot of flavours.
