We had to get up really early at 3am for a trip to the King’s Canyon. Distances in the NT are unassumingly large and it took us 3 hours to get there. We got to see some spectacular changes in the color of the sky as the sun rose. I have never seen the sky such bright red just before sunrise.

Matthew, Ben and I went on a 6 km walk along the top of the Canyon. Climbing up the first 500 steps was the hardest but the views from the top were spectacular. A number of times we walked really close to the edge with a sheer fall of a few hundred meters.

At the same time Bron, Emily and Thomas did a walk along the base of the Canyon. It was a much shorter distance but they got to see the sharp rises and sheer cliff faces of the Canyon. We were lucky that it was a crystal clear day with uninterrupted views.
