Day 2 in Maui

#Daay 2 in Maui

Today was our second day in Maui and we didn’t have any specific activities planned. For breakfast we decided to try the big buffet, which turned out to be a bad idea. It was just a bit too overwhelming and claustrophobic with a table or size. The noise and the food didn’t help. I think we will go back to the other restaurant for breakfast from now on.

We took a taxi into the Botanical Gardens however our cab driver had never heard of it before. With help from Google maps we were able to navigate for him and as we approached the front entrance he suddenly realised what we meant. The gardens were quite small but an interesting experience. It had all the truly native Hawaiian plants. Most of the plants we see around the islands are what they call “canoe plants” as they were brought by the Tahitians on canoes. They had a number of sprinklers on at the gardens and Thomas had a great time running through all of them.

We then took a taxi to a local shopping centre to have a look around. They had a giant chess set that I played a game against Ben and Matthew. Needless to say they beat me. Meanwhile Thomas and Emily played on a ocean themed party area within the shopping mall.

Thomas and Emily had an opportunity to catch up on their sleep in the room while Bron took the others to the shop library. Matthew was very excited as he got a couple of books from his favourite authors while he was there.

Dinner tonight was a drama and a half. For some reason or reservation was for 7.30 instead of 6.30, however the staff were able to find us a table. Given it was a bit later than normal, Thomas totally lost it and just wouldn’t settle. Finally we just got him some milk and vegetables and put him in his pram where he settled down.
