#And We’re Off….. Again
After a night in Sydney we were ready to start again. As we didn’t have interconnecting rooms Broom and I ended up sleeping all over the place but atleast the kids had a good night’s sleep. The breakfast buffet is always a great hit with everyone and we spent almost an hour having a relaxing breakfast.
We got to the airport with ample time and checked in again and we were back in the Air NZ lounge in no time and back sitting in almost the same seats. Even the meals in the lounge were the same and the same staff, it was quite a case of deja vu.
The flight was relatively easy and the Air NZ seat layout is fantastic. They even have a mini seat and a pull out table so you can have 2 people sitting across from each other. I put Thomas across from me and we were able to read, play and eat together. It made it a lot easier than having him on my lap the whole way.
On arrival in Auckland the drama started again. Given the Hawaiian Airlines flight doesn’t depart for another 5 hours they had no staff anywhere and no information counters open. We thought we would be able to go to the Qantas lounge, as they are airline partners, but that wasn’t open either. We finally found a lounge that accommodated Hawaiian passengers but because we didn’t have boarding passes we weren’t allowed on. Fortunately the staff member was very helpful and seeing 4 very tired kids took pity on us and let us in.
The Hawaiian counters finally opened an hour before departure and Ben and I trekked out to get outy boarding passes. All was going well till the printers failed and they couldn’t physically print out the passes. And while they were sorting out the printers someone got allocated Bronwyn’s seat. So we effectively ended up with the 3 kids in business and Bron and I in the back of the plane. Fortunately common sense prevailed and some poor guy got downgraded so Bron could get her seat back. They were also able to get a relatively good seat for me which is only a few rows back.
Anyway we are all on the plane now and settled in and we have just left the terminal. Fingers crossed the next post will be from Hawaii.
