Snails, Fails and Butterfly Tails

To commemorate Bastille Day a French themed market was setup at Southbank. I had pre-booked tickets to make it easier on the day. The brochure mentioned that there would be French themed food, activities and handicrafts. It was incredibly busy and much more than I had anticipated. There were really long lines for all the food which was also incredibly expensive. We had some snails, raclette, gruyere toasties and a French pizza. The food was ordinary at best and there was no place to sit. It was in keeping with all of our past experience with anything French.

They did have a kids activity area with paintings and games, however we didn’t need to have tickets for it. Emily got her face painted as a butterfly while Matthew wanted an Eiffel tower and French flag.

Bron the walked through the normal South Bank Sunday markets and surprisingly they had the exact same stalls, in the same locations that existed 4 years ago when we last came.

For dinner we visited a Turkish restaurant that was very highly rated. It didn’t disappoint. The food was prompt and be get well cooked. They also had traditional Turkish hats that the kids could try on and did on a throne. Even Thomas enjoyed the Turkish pides.
