Amazing Santa

Today was meant to be the highlight of the visit to Lapland thus far, with a visit to Santa’s Village. We started by going to Arktikum which is a museum dedicated to Lapland. We read about their history, clothing, culture etc. It is an incredibly harsh environment and living here would be brutal.

We followed it up with lunch at a manor which consisted of Salmon Soup. The kids all got meatballs which they devoured.

We spent the rest of the afternoon at Santa’s Village. It was snowing for most of the day and it looked magical. The number of tourists and the commercialization made it a bit less magical. We visited Santa’s official post office and sent a card home postmarked from here. The boys went on toboggans and watched reindeers.

The highlight was meeting Santa in his office. The line was about an hour long but it was worth it. Santa greeted all the kids, asked where we were from and then told them that he visited Canberra earlier in the week and left something special for each of them. Emily was just so excited that Santa remembered her. It was definitely worth the trip just to see Emily’s reaction.

Dinner tonight wasn’t part of the hotel package so we visited a local restaurant called Nili. It was rated very highly on TripAdvisor and it didn’t disappoint. We got a collection of meals and shared it amongst all of us. The reindeer cooked two ways was amazing.
