Breathtaking Bergen

We took a cable car up to Floyen which provides a view over all of Bergen. The kids got ther prized seat in the car and had the best view of Bergen as we went up the hill. Fortunately when we arrived the sun was out and it was clear. In under an hour the fog set in and visibility was down to 0. The two panorama photos were taken from the same location a couple of hours apart.

There was a great play area and park up at the peak and the kids had a great time pretending to be the 3 goats in Billy Goat Gruff and staying away from the trolls. We were also lucky to see the lighting of the giant candles for Christmas. Every Sunday for 4 weeks before Christmas they light a giant candle on the peak and we were at hand to see them light the 3rd for this year. The kids also found a sign pointing to Sydney and we are apparently 16,162 kms from home.

Bergen is just such an idyllic European town. It looks exactly how I imagined little townships would look like. Unlike Denmark there seem to be a lot more people out and about and a lot more kids, of all ages. The days are incredibly short and the sun didn’t rise till almost 10 today and it started to set by 3.
